X-ray Cluster of Galaxies Identified in Error Box 2U2358-29

Abstract

THE identification of Uhuru X-ray sources1 with rich clusters of galaxies is simple for sources in the northern hemisphere. Zwicky's cluster catalogues2 extend southward to a declination of −2°, and Abell's cluster catalogue3 extends to a declination of −27°. The X-ray coincidences with these clusters are listed in the Uhuru catalogue and discussed elsewher4–6. Here I report the results of search for rich nearby clusters of galaxies located in those Uhuru error boxes (for 90% positional confidence) which lie in the declination zone −27°≥dec.≥−45°. The prints used in the search are from the Whiteoak 1964 extension of the Palomar Sky Survey.
