Abstract
A FLASH evaporation technique of vacuum deposition has recently been developed to prepare the low-temperature phases of iron sulphides such as greigite (Fe3S4) and marcasite (FeS2), which are difficult to synthesize by the usual dry method1–3. Applying this technique, we have succeeded for the first time in synthesizing a nickel-free form of pentlandite (Fe,Ni)9S8.
