A Natural Occurrence of Hexagonal CU1.83S in Rancagua, Chile

Abstract

RECENT X-ray diffraction and electron microprobe studies, paralleled by increasingly detailed research on phase equilibria in corresponding synthetic systems 1,2, have made a considerable contribution to the clarification, of the complex mineralogical relationships which characterize the economically important supergene copper ores. Most copper sulphides synthesized at low temperatures have been shown to have natural analogues but several phases have yet to be recognized in ores.
