Optical Resolution of the Lamb Shift in Atomic Hydrogen by Laser Saturation Spectroscopy

Abstract

This article describes a successful attempt to resolve the single fine structure components of the hydrogen line Hα. The Lamb shift has been observed directly in the optical absorption spectrum.
