A fine balance for life and death decisions

Cell survival decisions in Drosophila and mammals are governed by complex antagonistic interactions between inhibitor-of-apoptosis proteins (IAPs), IAP inhibitors and caspases. Such interactions ensure that the levels and activities of these proteins are appropriate for life or death.
