A comparison of fibroblasts expressing conditional, physiological or high levels of RAS oncogenes showed that the overexpression of RAS induced ROS production, whereas physiological expression levels reduced ROS levels and promoted a reductive as opposed to oxidative intracellular environment. Similar results for MYC and oncogenic BRAF were also found.

These results from DeNicola et al. indicate that oncogene activation can increase the expression of NRF2, negating the need for mutation of NFE2L2 or KEAP1 ... to achieve the same outcome.
