A New Method for Selection of Escherichia coli Mutants defective in Membrane Lipid Synthesis

Abstract

Virtually nothing is known concerning the roles of specific phospholipids in membrane structure and function although various suggestions have been made1,2. Isolation of mutants defective in the synthesis of various phospholipid components of the membrane seems likely to answer these questions.
