Stan was born in Poland. Caught up in the maelstrom of the Second World War, its aftermath saw him as a displaced person who then settled in England.

Working his way through college he qualified at The London Hospital Dental School in 1958 and a year later took British citizenship.

Blessed with the twin virtues of a clear mind and a sound understanding of dental procedures, Stan joined the staff of The London initially as a part-time demonstrator in the Conservation Department. He later opted for general practice in Hounslow, West London. From the outset Stan embraced the philosophy of the National Health Service through which he channelled his considerable clinical skills.

Stan continued to follow his special interests of radiology and endodontics to the extent of keeping meticulous records of his more interesting and complex treatments. He was particularly concerned with the resolution of peri-apical areas when calcium hydroxide [Biocalex] was used as a root canal dressing. Some of these clinical records appeared in standard textbooks of the time as illustrated case studies. He was also among the first to recognise the inherent potential of acid etch procedures and he kept abreast both academically and clinically of the rapidly expanding field of composite restorative materials.

Stan took an active part in the proceedings of his local Ealing, Hammersmith and Hounslow Dental Committee and represented that Committee at annual conferences of LDCs.

A keen, active and popular member of the Association, he held many posts in the Hounslow and Twickenham Section, did much work for the Benevolent Fund and was elected President of the Middlesex and Hertfordshire Branch in 1982. A very successful meeting in Malta followed which also forged ongoing links between the Branch and the Maltese Dental Association.

Colleagues and friends found him a man of sincerity and integrity with a warm sense of humour.

Stan was a religious man. Colleagues and friends found him a man of sincerity and integrity with a warm sense of humour. All extend their deepest sympathy to Marysia, his wife, friend and lifelong companion - and to their families.
