Marathon man

Robert Baxter — dentist from Cheshire — will be competing in the Flora London marathon on 16th April. It will be his first marathon and at the age of 54 he says that this is clear evidence that mercury causes brain damage!

He will be running for the Leukaemia Research Fund. If you would like to support Robert please ring 01928 732 184.

Chalkwell is chuffed with IiP award

New Scottish Office

The new office premises of the Scottish branch of the British Dental Association were officially opened by J. Stuart Robson, President of the Association.

J. Stuart Robson looks on while Alastair MacLean — Scottish Secretary — polishes up the plate at the front of the new premises.

Telemedicine

A telemedicine link is being established between the Orthodontic Department in Altnagelvin Hospital in Northern Ireland and the Ascension Island Dental Service. Altnagelvin Hospital is the largest acute hospital in Northern Ireland outside the Belfast area.

There is only one dentist on the island — Mr Johnny Hobson, A Queen's University of Belfast graduate.

Pictured with Johnny Hobson is (left-right) Mrs Joan Hutchinson, Clinical Services Manager, and Miss Roz McMullen, Consultant Orthodontist, Altnagelvin Hospital.

The technology will allow Mr Hobson to provide more complex orthodontic diagnoses and treatment plans than might otherwise be possible by videolinking with Ms Roslyn McMullen, Consultant Orthodontist, in Altnagelvin, who will also regularly review patients by telemedicine link, every 3—4 months.
