What's new

Oi! You're nicked!

WebDetect Ltd has developed a new piece of affordable, covert software technology which can trace stolen PC's and laptops.

Above: Howard Lester — MD of WebDetect — fights back against PC takeaway.

WebDetect is a computer tracking device which is virtually undetectable once installed. The software interrogates the PC to build a complete identity of each individual computer which is then registered with WebDetect's secure server.

If that PC is subsequently reported stolen and reconnected to an external e-mail, internet or fax line, WebDetect will identify the location of the PC and inform local police of its whereabouts.

MD of Webdetect , Howard Lester said that the over-riding concern amongst health care practitioners is the loss of patient data and the threat to confidentiality and also, that under the Data Protection Act, if any of that data is misused, it is the original holder of that information who is liable to prosecution.

The software is available on CD and floppy disk and it can be downloaded from WebDetect's website. It costs £49 and then £15 a year for round-the-clock monitoring for an individual licence and costs reduce on a sliding scale for networks and multiple users.

For further information, contact WebDetect on 01757 289 280 or visit the Webdetect website on www.webdetect.com.

Is that a bone in your socket or......?

Septodont are launching Bioplant HTR Synthetic Bone - an easily used osteopromotive grafting material for placement into tooth extraction sites for reduction of tissue shrinkage and the preservation of the original ridge morphology.

Bioplant HTR is also haemostatic, hydrophilic and nonresorbable. Its granules have an osteopromotive negative surface charge and do not support the growth of oral pathogens. The microporous structure allows new bone to form and its graftable surface means additional therapeutics eg. antibiotics, can be used alongside Bioplant HTR.

After extraction and debridement, blood from the socket is drawn into the Bioplant HTR syringe where it clots and forms a gel-like mass before being injected back into the socket.

Get to the root of it

ProRoot MTA is compositionally formulated to have the physical properties, setting requirements and characteristics necessary for a clinically effective root repair material.

Packs come with a premeasured unit dose of water for convenience in mixing. When mixed, ProRoot MTA reaches a working consistency rapidly and is ready to be applied.

ProRoot MTA is a clinically viable solution for a wide variety of indications including: apexification, repair of root perforations during root canal therapy, repair of root resorption, root-end filling and pulp capping.

Because ProRoot MTA creates a good seal, allows less leakage, is biocompatible and sets in the presence of moisture, root repairs performed with this material result in more predictable results.

Dentist in a box

According to Barbican Healthcare — the dental service provider — an in-house clinic held one day a week can save up to 3,000 lost man hours a year whilst a week-round clinic can yield savings of 15,000 man hours a year.

Behind this flexible service, newly-developed technology enables Barbican Healthcare to reduce state-of-the-art dental equipment to a compact size. There are two options: the first is a mobile unit suitable for companies with their own on-premises parking. All the unit requires is a power source. For companies which are compacted into high-rise buildings, there is Barbican's complete dental surgery which folds into a box so that it can be transported into the building on a porter's trolley. Urgent problems can be dealt with the same day as on-premises clinics are also much more time-flexible.

For more complex cases, there is an online referral system to the clinic's own dental specialists including periodontists, endodontists and crown and bridge design services. For more information call 0171 656 3711.

'snow problem!

Research has continued in the search for a core post material with a modulus of elasticity similar to that of dentine, allowing a more even distribution of mechanical stresses and reducing the incidence of radicular fractures.

Snowpost from J&S Davis, is the result of the search for the correct material. Brought together in a white post, the glass fibre and epoxy resin acquire strength, elasticity and excellent bonding. The E-modulus is very similar to that of natural dentine.
