STAN Dental Practice is the first dental practice in South Yorkshire to achieve Investors in People national standard.

New European Advisory Board

3M Dental announce the creation of a new European Advisory Board to develop collaboration between leading European dentists. The objective is to better respond to practitioners' and patients' needs, to promote professional education, to provide dentists with tools to help patients and to anticipate trends and issues in the dental field.

The Chairman of the board is Trevor Burke, Professor of Dental Primary Care, University of Glasgow Dental School. The inaugural meeting gathered a group of leading European dentists from nine countries, and was held in Paris in 1999.

Canadian Royal College examines in England

Above: The Royal College of Dentists of Canada conducted their fellowship examination in paediatric dentistry in Leeds in June. This was the first time that the examination had been taken outside Canada.

John Lilley retires

Dr John Lilley of the Turner Dental School at the University of Manchester retired from academic life on 30th June 1999.

He began student life at the School in 1956, later joining the staff teaching restorative dentistry and giving some 37 years of devoted service.

GDSC Elections

The General Dental Services Committee elections for the 2000–2003 triennium are being held this autumn.

All dentists with a health authority list number, irrespective of BDA membership, and including vocational dental practitioners and assistants, are entitled to stand for election and to vote. Both candidates and proposers, of which six are required, must be dentists who live or practise within the constituency.

Nomination forms are available from 1st September to 15th October. Voting will take place between 25th October and 22nd November and the results will be announced on 24th November.
