First past the post

The new 'white' aesthetic composipost (Aestheti-Post) from Dental 2000 is made with a carbon-fibre core sheathed in quartz fibres for dependable post and core restorations with optimum aesthetics.

A replacement for metal posts, Composipost posts reduce the incidence of root fracture because of their modulus of elasticity, which mimics natural dentine.

Dental 2000 also says the combination of chemical and mechanical bonding between the posts and the cement/core materials with the strong carbon fibres ensures a 'monobloc' reconstruction with enduring properties.

Composipost/Aestheti-Post can be removed from the tooth by a simple drilling procedure, which leaves the tooth intact for retreatment.

Make restorations a sure thing

SureFil from Dentsply is a 'next generation' posterior restorative that offers outstanding physical properties and a simplified technique.

Though it handles and wears like amalgam, SureFil recreates natural tooth colour and contains fluoride. It is made from a mixture of different-sized particles of patented fluoride-infused glass, held together by Dentsply's Interlocking Particle Technology.

Dentsply says that SureFil gives a feel and resistance similar to amalgam during condensation. It also eliminates the 'slumping' and rebounding dentists find in most composites when they try to establish contacts.

Available in three shades, SureFil can be placed in bulk (up to 5mm increments) and light-cured for 40 seconds.

Functional product

GC's synthetic resin ISO Functional is for 'compo' devotees looking for improved performance and extended applications.

Above : Kavo Profin Head, for the finishing and polishing of restoratives. The product produces a reciprocating motion that is ideal for grinding, finishing and polishing in the interproximal and subgingival areas of anterior fillings and root surfaces.

Reaching 81% flow at body temperature, ISO Functional compound is ideal for functional (muscle) trimming, relining and impressions of missing denture portions. Because of its slow setting characteristics ISO Functional can be used to make highly accurate impressions, making it ideal for rebasing.

ISO Functional reaches uniform plasticity quickly, solidifies rapidly and has a long working time with a 'natural affinity' to plastics and acrylics. It comes in packs of 15 (8g) sticks costing £18.90 +VAT.

Get Charisma from Heraeus Kulzer

Charisma F and Solid Bond from Heraeus Kulzer have been combined with a new fluoride-releasing system.

The Microglass F filler of Charisma F contains fluoride ions which — in combination with the fluoride release of the Solid Bond system — produces an enhanced fluoride concentration at the critical interface between the restorative and the tooth structure.

Charisma F is packaged in a new waste delivery system. Characterisation stains are also available for superior aesthetics. Solid Bond provides high bond strength to both dentine and enamel, while Solid Bond S is radiopaque.

Be Definite about amalgam alternative

Frankfurt-based Degussa claims that its amalgam alternative Definite is now used by more than half of Germany's dentists. The company has delivered material for more than 2 million fillings only six months after the product was launched.

Definite is a biocompatible, organically- modified ceramic. It is based on both an inorganic network of silicon and oxygen and organic groups. As with all organically-modified ceramics, Definite does not set free any residual monomers which could cause allergic reactions in patients and dentists.

Wear-resistant and form-retaining, Definite is suitable for all types of tooth fillings. A variety of colour shades mean it is ideal for use in front teeth.

The future's bright for bleaching shades

Ivoclar-Vivadent has launched a number of bleaching shades in its popular Tetric Ceram and Tetric Flow composite ranges.

The company says that one of the main problems with tooth bleaching is that composite materials already in place fail to bleach and will need replacing to blend in with the new, whiter teeth. This applies to even the brightest shades of the Chromoscop system.

Tetric Ceram and Tetric Flow are now available in three ultra-white bleaching shades that feature the usual advantages of these restoratives: high radiopacity, continuous fluoride release and reduced sensitivity to ambient light.

Both materials contain a combination of five filler types (three of which are ceramic) that feature a fine filler content allowing them to be polished to a smooth, high-gloss finish.

An assortment of Tetric Ceram and Tetric Flow cavifils (containing 10 cavifils each of the three new bleaching shades and 5 cavifils each of the three Tetric Flow shades) and shade guide is available for £89.95. There is also an offer of 20 cavifils of Tetric Ceram Bleaching Shade for £41.45 and 20 cavifils of Tetric Flow bleaching shades for £43.95.

Less is more

GC's Fuji II LC light-cured glass ionomer has been improved by reducing its powder particle size. This means the material is stronger, with a higher level of fluoride release and an extended working time. The aesthetics have also been improved.

Fuji II LC is ideal for Class III and V restorations, cervical erosions/root surface caries and the restoration of primary teeth. It can also be used as a base liner beneath fillings.

Radiopaque, Fuji II LC bonds chemically to enamel and dentine without the need for acid etching. It also releases fluoride over a long period of time.

Compared with conventional glass ionomers, Fuji II LC offers easy operation, longer working times, rapid stabilisation of material, lower water sensitivity, greater chemical adhesive and compressive strengths, excellent aesthetics and superior compatibility.

Gluma One Bond

Gluma One Bond is a light-curing one- component bonding agent from Heraeus Kulzer that uses a 4-META adhesion promoter.

It fixes direct and indirect restorations securely to enamel and dentine and is able to wet deep into the conditioned dentine to form a secure, stress-resistant bond. Gluma One Bond is also easy to apply.
