Dr Lopa Mishra, MD, is a Distinguished Professor of Surgical Sciences and Medicine, Director of Cancer Genetics at Georgetown University and the Director of Digestive Diseases, DVAMC, Washington, DC. Dr Mishra graduated from the University of London with an MD. After a residency in internal medicine at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York, she joined as a fellow in Gastrointestinal diseases and Developmental biology at Johns Hopkins University. After attaining a junior faculty position at Johns Hopkins, Dr Mishra joined Fels Cancer Institute, Temple University, as an Associate Professor in Biochemistry in 1994. Dr Mishra joined Georgetown University and Lombardi Cancer Center in 2003. Her accomplishments as a physician scientist have been recognized in numerous awards. She was awarded the Funderburg Scholar in Gastric Cancer in 2003 and is also a recipient of the Myerberg Award for Excellence in Research in Liver and Gastrointestinal Development and the Cox Award for Innovative Clinical Therapy of Gastrointestinal Cancers.
