Advanced Linkage Course

Topics include: the LINKAGE and other computer programs — theory and practice; handling of inbreeding loops; age-dependent penetrance and age at disease onset; sex-specific recombination fractions; models of genetic heterogeneity; analysis of complex diseases; alleic association (disequilibrium); nonparametric linkage analysis; two-locus models of inheritance; computer simulation.

Participants must be familiar with IBM PCs or compatible microcomputers. Extensive experience with a linkage program and/or a good background in statistical genetics and linkage analysis are additional criteria for admission.

Richard M. Goodman Fellowship: A Research Fellowship in Jewish Genetic Diseases

We announce the availability of the Richard M. Goodman Fellowship for Research in Jewish Genetic Diseases. The goal of the fellowship is to provide salary support for a young Israeli MD or PhD at the beginning of his or her research career to choose a research preceptor (preferably an internationally renowned investigator in North America) to pursue innovative research on some aspect of a genetic disorder which occurs more frequently in Jewish people. One fellowship of US$ 15,000 will be awarded annually by the National Foundation for Jewish Genetic Diseases. The fellowship should be a minimum of 3 months, preferably 6 months or an academic year. Applications are due by December 1, 1995. The fellowship stipend is available after January 1,1996 and is not renewable.
