Cross-ancestry genome-wide association meta-analyses identify new risk loci for peptic ulcer diseases and provide evidence that gastrointestinal cell differentiation and hormone regulation contribute to their etiology.

Genetic factors contribute to peptic ulcer disease (PUD). Here, the authors perform a genome-wide association analysis on PUD in the UK Biobank, highlighting shared architecture with other gastrointestinal disorders and possible causal links with depression.

Algorithms can predict the risk of rebleeding and mortality in patients with upper gastrointestinal bleeding, but not the risk of rebleeding following endoscopic treatment in patients with ulcers. A recent meta-analysis has addressed this issue, and could facilitate the development of methods to predict rebleeding and endoscopic treatments to reduce rebleeding.
