Abstract
The completion of the Human Genome Project will provide much needed insight into the molecular basis of monogenic or complex cardiac disorders. But what are the prospects for using genomic information in diagnosis and treatment of cardiac diseases?
Cardiovascular disorders represent a large public health concern due to their high prevalence, morbidity and mortality. Due to increases in life expectancy, diseases such as hypertension, coronary artery disease, heart failure, stroke and peripheral vascular diseases have become pandemic in both developed and developing countries.
