Abstract
Surface solar radiation has undergone decadal variations since the middle of the twentieth century, producing global |[lsquo]|dimming|[rsquo]| and |[lsquo]|brightening|[rsquo]| effects. These variations presumably result from changes in aerosol burden and clouds, but the detailed processes involved have yet to be determined.
