Palaeoclimate: The riddle of the clays
Abstract
If one wishes to draw lessons on the effects of rapid extreme changes in the carbon cycle and global climate, the Palaeocene–Eocene thermal maximum (PETM) of 55 million years ago is a good place to start. But almost immediately we run into difficulties.
