UK universities urged to build more industry links

Business secretary calls for wider commercial interest in British science.

British universities need to "focus more" on commercializing the fruits of their endeavours, including research, Peter Mandelson, the UK business secretary said today.

In his first speech on higher education since taking responsibility for the brief, Mandelson, who heads the new Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS), said new ways to encourage collaboration between researchers and industry are needed.
