Emma Marris writes back from Saint Louis, where thousands of scientists and policy experts are meeting to swap news in all areas of research, from climate change to bioterrorism. The American Association for the Advancement of Science meeting runs from 16-20 February.
A session on relativity violations today brought up the antiquated notion of 'ether', which was a kind of vague stuff that was once thought to take up all the empty space in the Universe. It was used to explain how electromagnetic waves got from one place to each other.
