Missing the boat: a loophole in start-up funding?
Abstract
In many countries it is possible to obtain one's first position as principal investigator within five years of a first postdoc, and funding policies that encourage this fast-track route are all the rage. In the UK, for example, the Medical Research Council and the Wellcome Trust offer generous Career Development Awards of up to |[pound]|1 million — enough to effectively kick-start a successful independent career.
