Plant biotechnology: Zinc fingers on target

The existing methods of creating genetically modified plants are inefficient and imprecise. Zinc-finger technology offers the prospect of opening up a swifter and more exact route for crop improvement.

Go into any supermarket in the developed world, and you would be sure that we live in a world of plenty. Yet elsewhere on the globe tens of thousands of people die every day from starvation, and today, as much as ever, ways of improving food production are needed.
