Abstract
The Universe seems to be expanding ever faster — a phenomenon generally ascribed to the influence of 'dark energy'. But might the observed acceleration be a trick of the light in an inhomogeneous Universe?
Ten years ago, observations of distant supernovae brought a startling realization: the Universe's expansion is apparently accelerating. This observation required a quick patch-up of the dynamics of cosmologists' standard 'concordance' model of the Universe.
