Abstract
Light-emitting diodes are seen by many as the light source of the future. But as Kurt Kleiner reports, their adaptation will take time.
When a newly expanded Wal-Mart store opened in Burton, Michigan, last month, it seemed like just another case of American gigantism — the 19,000-square-metre 'supercentre' sells everything from power tools to potatoes, employs 430 people, and boasts 30 checkout aisles.But over in the frozen-food section, something more interesting than mere wretched excess was happening.
