Abstract
How did a mud volcano come to destroy an Indonesian town? David Cyranoski reports from Sidoarjo.
It started on 29 May 2006: a small spurt of mud in the middle of a rice paddy. Now the cauldron of hot, bubbling mud is some 50 metres in diameter and rises 16 metres above that long, submerged paddy.
