Abstract
The Arctic is the bellwether of climate change, which shows up there first and fastest. Quirin Schiermeier visits ecologists struggling to keep up.
On a splendid, freezing spring morning in Sweden's far north, global warming seems far away. The pristine landscape around the Abisko Scientific Research Station, 200 kilometres inside the Arctic Circle, is glistening white.
