Cytoskeleton: Microtubules do the twist
Patrick J. Hussey
Abstract
As plant life diversified during evolution there would have been intense competition for light, making the ability to twist and climb advantageous. A subcellular filamentous network can create the twist seen in climbing plants.
The love affair between a left-handed-twisting plant, bindweed, entwining the right-handed-twisting honeysuckle was doomed when a bee told them to consider their offspring:Poor little sucker, how will it learn
When it is climbing, which way to turn?
Right — left — what a disgrace!
