Mexico's bid to join the World

The 80 million people of Mexico are looking to 1994 (and NAFTA) to signal full membership of the international community. The assassination last month of a presidential candidate is a set-back, but need not be a huge one. This survey of science in Mexico shows that the foundations have been laid for continued improvement.
