Geostrophic comparisons using measurements from a moored current and temperature meter

Abstract

THE vertical shear of horizontal current, calculated from moored current meters, can be compared with the geostrophic shear calculated from moored temperature measurements. The results of this comparison show good agreement in sign and magnitude and indicate the validity of the geostrophic balance in the conservation of momentum.
