Abstract
ANTI-LYMPHOCYTE serum (ALS) has been shown to have a significant suppressive effect on cell-mediated immune processes such as rejection of skin-homografts1,2. Suppression of humoral antibody formation by ALS has also been reported3. Moller and Zukoski4 have recently suggested that there may be a preferential effect of ALS on antigen-sensitive cells as compared with the antibody-producing cells. The mechanism underlying these various effects, however, is still a matter of conjecture. Studies of the effect of ALS on the target cell, the lymphocyte, therefore assume importance.
