Abstract
EMERGENCE from the rest period in potato tubers has been correlated with an increase in the level of endogenous gibberellin1. There have been no reports of similar observations with respect to breaking of seed dormancy although a ‘germination stimulator’ has been demonstrated in after-ripened ash embryos2. No difference in gibberellin-level was found between light-activated and dark-imbibed lettuce seeds3. Increases in gibberellins, however, have been demonstrated in connexion with the induction of flowering both by low-temperature treatment4 and by long photoperiods4–6.
