Effect of Streptomycin on the Incorporation of Amino-Acids labeled with Carbon-14 into Ribonucleic Acid and Protein in a Cell-free System of a Mycobacterium

Abstract

DURING investigations on the effect of streptomycin on the protein synthesis in Mycobacteria, it was observed that streptomycin inhibited the incorporation of 14C-DL-tyrosine into the protein of resting cells of a streptomycin-sensitive strain of Mycobacterium friburgensis while it had no such effect on the resistant strain (Table 1).
