Pharmaceutical industry financial performance

To investigate this, we used consensus sell-side forecasts, our proprietary databases, company-reported historical revenues, the FDA Orange Book, and SEC filings to predict the revenues of the 14 large-cap pharmaceutical companies from 2009E–2015E (see Supplementary information S1 (box) for details of the analysis). These predictions are based on each company's portfolio of pipeline and marketed drugs, including off-patent products and other non-itemized revenue sources. We then modelled revenue performance over that time frame using net present value (NPV) gap analysis against a modest 5% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) in revenue.
