Abstract
The entropy level of the Universe makes it likely that its initial state was isotropic and quiescent rather than chaotic. Only if the equation of state for high density matter tends to the stiff, p = ρ, form might such an initially isotropic and homogeneous universe be stable and probable. Of those asymptotic states suggested by strong interaction physics, only for such stiff matter is isotropy compatible with large amplitude gravitational waves, random velocities, vorticity and magnetic fields. An explanation for the microwave background is also possible in such a model.
