    TOOTH ART SERIES: BABY TOOTH CAST IN GOLD

    The cover images in volume 214 of the journal showcase various forms of tooth art from all over the world. A baby tooth cast in gold appears on the front cover of this issue. Kim Kovel collects good luck charms, so when her son lost the first of his baby teeth, she cast it in gold to wear around her neck. People were fond of the little golden tooth and began to ask for their own; before long, Kim’s charm grew into an entire collection.

    Kim was raised in New York and has studied, worked and travelled throughout the world. She lives in Portland, Oregon with her son Nic, who still has a few teeth to lose.

The artworks of surrealist artist Fouts explore themes of time, religious iconography, nature and humour. The artist works typically with everyday objects, injecting them with her unique wit.     TOOTH ART SERIES: SMILING FACE SCULPTED IN STONE BY HIROTOSHI ITO

    The cover images in volume 214 of the journal showcase various forms of tooth art from all over the world. This issue features 'Smiling face sculpted in stone' by Japanese artist Hirotoshi Ito. Hirotoshi Ito is a stone sculptor whose work is known for its unique structure and sense of humor. Ito collects his art supplies along river banks near his studio in Matsumoto City (Nagano Prefecture) and his work is focused on optimising the stone's original shape. He is honoured when his pieces make people laugh.

    TOOTH ART SERIES: TOOTH RING BY POLLY VAN DER GLAS

    The cover images in volume 214 of the journal showcase various forms of tooth art from all over the world. This issue of the BDJ features 'Tooth Ring' by Australian artist Polly van der Glas. The piece is made from human teeth and sterling silver. Since 2005 van der Glas' work has centred on materials that were once attached to our bodies: human hair, teeth and fingernails. This issue’s cover features Gina Czarnecki’s Palaces, which is an evolving sculpture created using thousands of baby teeth donated by the public. Palaces will be displayed as part of Gina’s exhibition entitled ‘The Wasted Works’ in Manchester’s Museum of Science and Industry.
