Regularly flushing out suction units with water is not enough to fight biofilm build-up. Nor does simply using cleaning agents provide a solution, because germs and germ-infested films can remain behind.

The argument that, in general, wholesale removal of biofilm is not possible has not been proven. In the opinion of Dürr Dental, it is rather the degree of contamination that is crucial. Regular application of disinfectants always protects against biofilm formation.

Nor is it true that only aggressive disinfectants, which do long-term damage to the unit, are effective. It is indisputable that not every disinfectant is suited to this special area. Depending on active ingredients, pH-values and physical conditions, the potential effectiveness of many products is not realised. Chemical agents such as aldehyde and alcohols even contribute to making biofilm more difficult to penetrate.

Operators should be absolutely certain that preparations have been formulated specifically for disinfection of suction units such as Orotol plus. This solution is suited to simultaneous disinfection, cleaning, deodorising and care of suction units and amalgam separators. Thanks to its bactericidal, fungicidal, tuberculocidal and limited virucidal properties, it reliably dissolves and disinfects biofilm and prevents clogging caused by blood and proteins. At the same time, its material compatibility helps maintain system parts.
