Abstract
In the period 1969-80 in the Institute of Rehabilitation at Konstancin, Poland, 75 patients with cervical spondylosis and spinal canal stenosis were treated surgically for pain syndrome, or other neurological disturbances.
Using an anterior approach a decompression operation with spinal stabilisation was performed.
Good results, shown by the abolition of persistent pain and the decrease or disappearance of neurological defects, were obtained in most patients. The best results were achieved in the group of relatively young patients with insignificant neurological defects without paresis or muscular atrophy. Good results were also obtained in one half of the patients over the age of 60 years.
