The British Alliance of Researchers in Dental Education and Scholarship (BARDES) had their first in-person meeting for over two years in Liverpool in October.
The event started the evening before with an excellent networking event held at the Museum of Liverpool and music provided by Victoria Kewley, Senior Clinical Teacher at the University of Liverpool. The theme was 'Today's assessment for tomorrow's life-long learning'. The first plenary talk was given by Professor Richard Fuller (Director of Christie Education in Manchester, formerly of the University of Liverpool) on 'What is the status of evidence in health care professional's assessment?' This was followed by a talk given by Ms Joanne Bowles (University of Liverpool) on 'How did we modify assessment during COVID-19 and have we improved the evidence?' These two plenaries were followed by some very interactive workshops addressing the missing evidence in dental education and research abstracts, and finally, a closing plenary given by Dr Kathryn Fox (University of Liverpool) on 'Generation Z, assessment for learning-identifying weaknesses or developing strengths?'
This was the largest BARDES scientific meeting to date with over 120 registrants from 24 universities, representing not only UK and Ireland but France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain and Sweden.
