I am delighted to share a new 'introduction to...' article this month, focusing on aesthetic dentistry and its 'seven deadly sins'. This is a fascinating read with striking photos of, for example, cervical black lines, bulbosity, aesthetic crown lengthening and defective maxillary restorations. I hope that you enjoy reading it; don't forget to test your knowledge by visiting our CPD Hub afterwards.

Members of BDJ Team's reader panel continue to contribute fantastic pieces of writing this year. For May, dentist Noor has focused on the importance of thorough intra and extra oral soft tissue examinations when seeing patients. Award-winning dental therapy graduate Claire Bennett explores dyslexia and its impact on working in dentistry - something of which she has first-hand experience. Claire's dyslexia was not discovered until she applied for university, despite having worked in dentistry for over 20 years at that point.

Amy Davis writes a heartfelt account of her life-changing experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic. Amy is a hospital dental hygienist and therapist and a tutor, but was redeployed in various capacities over the last year. I think many readers will be able to relate to some of Amy's struggles and emotions. Hopefully less turbulent times are ahead!

Sharif Islam is a dentist who feels that dental nurses do not get sufficient credit for their contribution to patient care and the day to day running of the dental practice. Sharif declares his admiration and gratitude towards his colleagues in Dear dental nurse.

Also this month we look at mindset and the dental team; supportive peri-implant therapy; how to help patients deal with their dental phobia; and present a step-by-step guide to managing dental trauma in the dental practice.
