Immunologic disturbances, especially those of cellular immunity, are often encountered in children with LCH. These immune disturbances are often described as a cause of LCH genesis.

The authors investigated immunologic status in 19 patients with LCH, treated at the University Children Hospital in Belgrade.

Performed investigations showed lowered total lymphocyte number in 84,21%, and normal in 15,79% of patients. The investigation of immunoglobulin status showed the greatest changes in IgM, which was elevated in 94,74%, while IgG and IgA were elevated in 68,42% patients.

Investigation of cellular immunity revealed lowered percentage in CD4 subpopulation of T lymphocytes in 78,95%, and increased percentage in CD8 in 89,47% of patients. Total values of CD4 were lowered in 89,44%, while total CD8 values were normal in 78,95%, lowered in 21,05%, but they weren't elevated in any of the patients.

Statistical data processing (Fisher's test) found no statistically significant differences in the above immunologic abnormalities, regarding to age of patients or degree of disease diffusion.
