Call for Nominations 1997 and 1998 Agnes Higgins Award

The March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation is seeking nominations of qualified persons for the 1997 and 1998 “Agnes Higgins Award”.

The award is presented in recognition of distinguished achievement in research, education or clinical services in the field of maternal-fetal nutrition.

The candidate must have:

  1. 1

    been widely involved in maternal-fetal nutrition through teaching, research and/or clinical practice for at least five years;

  2. 2

    shown a demonstrable effect in raising the quality of maternal-fetal nutritional care through scholarly pursuits, research, education and/or practice;

  3. 3

    demonstrated ability to apply maternal-fetal nutritional standards of practice and/or facilitate their implementation by others.

Established in 1980, the award honors the late Agnes Higgins of the Montreal Diet Dispensary for her innovation and years of service to the cause of improved maternal nutrition which has contributed to the well-being of thousands of babies.

Winners for both years will be selected in 1997. The deadline for nominations is March 15, 1997.

WORLD CONGRESS OF INTENSIVE AND CRITICAL CARE MEDICINE

The theme of the 7th World Congress of Intensive and Critical Care Medicine is “Critical Care, Critical Times, Critical Decision”. The conference will be held in Ottawa, Canada, June 29 - July 3, 1997. The program will be relevant to all professions involved in the delivery, evaluation, and funding of intensive and critical care medicine. The meeting is sponsored by the World Federation of Societies of Intensive Critical Care Medicine and hosted by the Canada Critical Care Society.

NATIONAL EPIDERMOLYSIS BULLOSA REGISTRY

The NIH/NIAMSD, through the National Epidermolysis Bullosa Registry, has established a Cell Bank of immortalized cells from individuals with epidermolysis bullosa to provide a service for the scientific community investigating these disorders.
