RESEARCH OPPORTUNITY

Seed Monies For Multicentered Clinical Studies Program

Call for Applications

The Society for Pediatric Research and the American Pediatric Society invite submissions of applications for the Multicenter Clinical Studies Program.

Many of the clinical practices that are routinely done in pediatrics, indeed in all of medicine, are empirical rather than based on information derived from well-controlled studies. To help improve upon this situation, the Societies will consider any proposal which addresses important clinical questions which are pertinent to children.

The purpose of the initiative is to help provide the impetus needed to get studies underway by allowing the necessary number of investigators to get together to work out a multicentered study protocol.

This initiative is designed to promote and expedite well-controlled multicentered studies by providing no more than $5,000 seed monies and a site(Pediatric Academic Societies' Annual Meeting) for interested investigators to meet.

Allowable costs are restricted to transportation and lodging for potential participants who are not APS/SPR members and who would not otherwise be attending the meeting (e.g., a statistician who will be involved in the design and analysis of the study) and communications (phone, fax and postage).

Priority will be given to multicollaborative groups that are in the developmental phases (have not done prior clinical studies as a multicenter group). The primary institution must be located in North America.
