Abstract
The superstructure of uniaxially oriented γ nylon 6 was investigated at swelling equilibrium in solvent-nonsolvent mixtures by means of small angle X-ray scattering. The parameters which characterize the superstructure, such as lamella thickness, long period, lateral size of the lamella, and spacing in the lateral direction, were evaluated based on a paracrystalline macrolattice model proposed by Wilke et al. These parameters were found to be independent of the swelling agent. The dependence of the parameters on the swelling degree was qualitatively similar to that previously observed on the swelling behavior with α nylon 6, indicating that there is no significant effect of the crystal structure and superstructure on the swelling behavior of the nylon 6.
