Variability in the X-ray Flux from M87

Abstract

Evidence has been published recently for variability in both the intensity and spectrum of X-rays from the massive elliptical galaxy M87. This article reports a new spectral measurement obtained in a rocket flight on November 20, 1970, and re-examines the evidence for variability over the period 1965–70.
