Helium Production by Pulsationally Unstable Massive Stars

Abstract

EVIDENCE suggests there are temporal and/or spatial variations of the helium abundance in the galaxy1,2 and in other galaxies3. If so, it is necessary to consider sites of helium production other than the primaeval fireball4–8. Even if the oldest stars had a minimum content of helium which is appreciable, the possibility that this was produced in some earlier galactic event could not be excluded.
