Dr John C Reed

John C Reed, MD, PhD, is a leader in apoptosis and cell death research, working at the Burnham Institute for Medical Research, where he currently serves as President and Chief Executive Officer and as the Donald Bren Presidential Chair. Much of Dr Reed's career has been devoted to delineating the fundamental mechanisms that regulate programmed cell death, defining their relevance to cancer and pioneering new apoptosis-based therapies for cancer. Dr Reed is the author of over 700 peer-reviewed scientific articles and more than 50 book chapters. He is the recipient of numerous awards and honors, and has been awarded over 75 research grants for his work. Dr Reed is the inventor for more than 70 patents and the scientific co-founder of four biotechnology companies. Dr Reed has the distinction of having published more papers on apoptosis during the past decade than any other scientist worldwide, and is among the world's most highly cited scientists, according to The Institute for Scientific Information.
