HCG-Receptor present in the Gonadotrophin Insensitive Leydig Cell of the Immature Rat

Abstract

THE mechanisms which control the onset of puberty are still unknown. Phenotypically, puberty occurs when mature sperm appear and the male accessory organs have reached maturity due to the secretion of gonadal androgenic steroids. The gonadal steroids in turn are synthesised and secreted in response to the stimulus of pituitary gonadotrophins. In male rats sexual maturity is reached between 40 and 50 d after birth1.
