Abstract
Mutants of the su+m tyrosine suppressor tRNA gene specifying tRNAs with single base substitutions near the CCA terminus of the amino acid acceptor stem result in the ability to translate the UAG codon as glutamine. These mutant tRNAs are aminoacylated by the glutaminyl-tRNA synthetase. While some of the mutants also retain their ability to insert tyrosine at the UAG site, others can only insert glutamine.
