Abstract
CRICK1 first considered in the “wobble hypothesis” the biological relevance of base pairs beyond the canonical ones A:T(U) and G(I):C. Podder2 was able to estimate the stability of the G:U wobble pair from T jump relaxation spectra of the interacting tetranucleotides GpGpGpU:GpCpCpC. Paetkau et al.3 concluded from poly rG synthesis on d(T-C)n·d(G-A)n and d(T-C-C) by Escherichia coli RNA polymerase that under appropriate conditions thymine-guanine base pairing may occur during transcription.
