Correlation Between Genetic and Translational Maps of Gene 23 in Bacteriophage T4

Abstract

Fragments synthesized by amber mutants in gene 23 contain peptides which are present in the uncleaved P23 precursor protein but not in the cleaved protein P23*. A comparison of the translational and genetic maps of gene 23 shows that, for most of the gene, there is a constant average frequency of recombination of 0.012 units per amino-acid.
